What is belching and is it beneficial?

The subject of belching has always been controversial in various societies of the world (in the etiquette of different societies).

In medieval Europe and China, ending a meal with a burp was actually a ritual action. It clearly pointed to the enjoyment of the meal.

If a person did not burp contentedly, his behaviour could be considered pretentious or even rude. Belching was considered almost an art, which, however, is almost lost in today’s society, because it is considered indecent. Therefore, this subject is devoted to the rehabilitation of belching.

Under natural conditions (spontaneous), belching brings an immediate and palpable sense of relief.

Belching is the expulsion of gases from the stomach through the mouth. Gases go outside with a characteristic sound. It is believed that the common cause of belching is involuntary ingestion of air. Ingestion of air occurs when a person drinks or eats too quickly, especially if he talks at the same time. Chewing gums and carbonated drinks may also contribute to the accumulation of gas in the stomach and, as a consequence, belching.

Belching in babies is normal and even desirable, because during feeding they swallow much more air than adults. If children do not belch after a meal, the gases accumulated in the intestine may then cause a lot of pain, so parents usually deliberately cause babies to burp.

In pregnant women, belching is also observed more often than usual.

So let’s make up our mind.

Belching may be of two types: normal and in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.

We believe that in diseases of the stomach and the intestines, belching is a compensatory reaction to the disease. We do not believe that it is necessary to fight belching in this period. It is simply necessary to go to the doctor and receive treatment. Belching will decrease during convalescence.

I wrote about yawning and stretching. Belching has the same mechanism. Immediately after belching a person experiences a relief. This is due to the fact that muscles of the diaphragm and abdominal muscles become relaxed.

Gastrointestinal disorders often accompany people. We shall not dwell on the causes. But the consequence of these diseases is an increase in the tone of the abdominal muscles, diaphragm, and possibly, the smooth muscles of the stomach and intestines.

Belching is a factor that slightly reduces the tone of these muscles. The reduction of the tone can favourably affect the gastrointestinal tract.

As a child, I read Levi’s book «The Art of Being Yourself». This book made a serious impression on me. It said that for a man to know himself, it is necessary to be able to relax. It had a lot of practical recommendations on how to relax different groups of muscles, including lung and abdominal muscles. I have been practicing these exercises since school age.

I want to share my habits. I pay special attention to the relaxation of the abdominal muscles, since most human diseases are associated with this system. Even the heart and brain are regulated by the gastrointestinal tract. Let’s remember when we are hungry, many have a headache (HAT Medicine system).

But I have noticed that if you do not relax your hands first, it is very difficult to relax the abdominal muscles. For this reason, I begin to relax my hands. Bending forward and slowly rotating «empty» hands in a circle is very helpful. And you feel that the hands are not yours, are heavy and hot.

After relaxing the hands, I relax the lungs and the abdomen, and for me is it one and the same thing. I breathe and repeat to myself that breathing is very easy and free. I feel lazy to breathe.

After that, I swallow and imagine that saliva slowly passes through oesophagus. Heat goes through my chest. After that, I begin to notice that there is some feeling of twitching at the bottom of the stomach. Often I just take a sip of water and gradually drink half a cup. I also imagine that the water goes through the oesophagus and reaches the stomach.

I noticed that belching and abdominal muscle relaxation come precisely after this. If I had some discomfort in the stomach before, they go away after that.

So relaxation leads to belching. Belching after eating is explained by the fact that air is swallowed during the meal. We believe that this is due to the relaxation that automatically appears after the meal — after a good meal, not after snacking.

It is complete food that gives us a sense of deep relaxation. We aspire to this feeling. For this reason, this form of relaxation is one of the most important in humans. It allows a person to stay healthy for a long time.

Conclusion:

Since belching is an unacceptable form of behaviour in society, I do not advise you to cause it in public. You cannot do anything about involuntary belching. But if you stay alone, practice relaxation, yawn, and you can relax the muscles of the abdomen, esophagus and respiratory system.

If you have a burp, you should know that your muscles are relaxed. The functioning of the gastrointestinal tract has improved automatically. This will lead to improvements in other important systems of the human.
