Podorov A. V., 32, arrived from Novorossiysk on 16 January 2014

After the flu and stress, in September 2012, Aleksandr Podorov, 32, felt a deterioration of vision in the right eye from the centre with gradual expansion. He had MRI, but his vision continued to deteriorate.

news01042014On 13 May 2013, he felt a deterioration of vision on the left. Optic neuropathy was diagnosed.

Treatment produced no results for a long time. Sharpness of vision continued to deteriorate. Someone advised him to go to Ufa to Professor Muldashev. In Ufa, an operation on the right eye was performed. Injections were made in the left eye. There was no effect, on the contrary, his vision continued to deteriorate.

The patient went to Israel. At Hadassah University Hospital in Jerusalem, Israel, he was examined under the leadership of the director of the Neurophthalmology Centre, Dr. Shlomo Dotan. He was diagnosed with optic atrophy in both eyes, afferent defect of the right pupil. Coherent tomography of the layer of retinal nerve fibre in the right eye was conducted. No treatment was offered. The MRI of the skull on 17 December 2013 showed signs of bilateral optic atrophy (both orbital and cranial sections) and atrophy of the optic chiasma of mild to moderate severity.

On admission to the HAT Medicine clinic.

Visual acuity was eccentric near the face at the bottom at a distance of 40 cm. The boundaries of the field of vision were in the form of small islands below (Figure 1) The fundus of the eye: the disk of the optic nerve was pale in colour, the boundaries were clear (Figure 2). In the temporal part of the disk there was an impression.

A bacteriological test was taken from the eye to identify the microflora and sensitivity to antibiotics. Treatment was started, which consisted of daily injections of antibacterial drugs in small doses in the arm. The treatment lasted 6 days. After 6 days, a repeat examination of the field of vision was conducted. There was a slight increase in the boundaries of the field of vision (Figure 3); This field of vision was taken just a week after the start of the treatment.

The reaction of the pupil to light became livelier. The patient noted no special subjective improvement of his vision in 6 days. But he was told that the effect would come gradually over the next 6 months.

A month later, we received a letter and talked to Sasha on the phone. He said he began to see significantly better and finds his bearings better. At least it is absolutely accurate that his vision ceased to deteriorate. A letter from Sasha’s mother (one month after treatment)

Good evening dear doctor!

Today I spoke to Sasha on the phone. He said he saw the hands of the clock hanging on the wall. He did not see the clock itself and says when the room is well lit, he sees more clearly. The eyesight of this patient constantly and steadily worsened. If he had come to us in time, his vision would be very high. But when vision disappears almost completely, it is difficult to treat it. One more month and the vision of the patient would have been completely gone. But not only it has not disappeared, it has also improved.
